Six
Decades by the Sea
The campsite's story began in 1966, when Jadranka, a hospitality company based in Mali Lošinj established a campsite at what is now Camping Baldarin's location. The first year was modest, with just over two thousand overnight stays, but even then the uniqueness of this place was evident. Long before the campsite was officially established, the Punta Križa area had already attracted naturist campers , and over time Baldarin became one of the best-known naturist destinations on the Croatian coast.
The campsite has evolved alongside the changing needs of its guests. Over the years, pitches have been improved, sanitary facilities have been built and modernised, and services and amenities have continually been enhanced. Yet the most important thing has remained unchanged – the unspoilt natural surroundings and the sense of freedom that define this special place.
A Home for Croatia's Naturist Tradition
Baldarin is part of Croatia's rich naturist tradition, which spans more than 90 years. Croatia is one of the pioneers of naturism in Europe, where the philosophy has always been rooted in living close to nature, respecting others, and embracing a simpler way of life. That same philosophy continues to thrive at Baldarin today, where naturists and guests who prefer traditional camping enjoy the campsite together in an atmosphere of mutual respect, openness, and harmony.
Surrounded by oak forests, fragrant Mediterranean herbs and the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea, Baldarin is much more than a place to spend the night. It is a place where days unfold by the sea, mornings begin with a swim, and evenings end beneath a sky full of stars. Here, nature is not simply the backdrop – it is an integral part of everyday life.
But above all, Baldarin has always been about its people.
Ljiljana and Đuro Švec: A Life Built at Baldarin
Over the decades, countless personal stories have become part of its unique heritage. Families who have been returning for generations, guests who took their very first steps here, lifelong friendships that began between tents and caravans, and dedicated employees who have devoted much of their lives to this remarkable place.
One such story belongs to Mrs. Ljiljana Švec, who first came to Camping Baldarin in 1983 as a seasonal employee together with her husband, Đuro. What began as a seasonal job soon became a lifelong journey. Here they met, started a family, and built their life together over the decades. After more than 40 years of service, Baldarin is far more than a workplace to her – it is a place she proudly calls home.
Daniela Konstantin: Four Generations at Pitch Number 1
Another story beautifully illustrates the bond between Baldarin and its guests. Mrs. Daniela Konstantin's family has been connected to the campsite since 1969, when her grandparents, Klaus and Brigitte "Gitti" Wagner, first arrived at Baldarin. What began as family holidays gradually became a tradition spanning four generations. Her grandfather personally prepared what would become Pitch Number 1, a place that still holds a special meaning for the family today. Daniela's parents spent their honeymoon at Baldarin, she took her very first steps there, and today her own son continues the family tradition. For Daniela, Baldarin is so deeply woven into her identity that she chose to commemorate it with a tattoo inspired by Pitch Number 1, the island of Cres, and her grandparents – a lasting symbol of love, belonging, and memories passed from one generation to the next.
A Croatian Camping Legacy that Continues
The guest stories above are just some of many. Some families have been returning since the 1970s, while children who once ran through the campsite now return with children and grandchildren of their own. Some remember their first tent, others early morning swims, or evenings spent by the sea. It is these small, deeply personal memories that give Baldarin its unique character and lasting charm.
Sixty years after its founding, Baldarin remains a place where past and present come together. A place where memories are cherished, new ones are created, and generations continue to return to the same paths, the same pine trees, and the same sea.
Because some places are more than destinations. Some places become part of your life.
Happy 60th Anniversary, Camping Baldarin.
